TERRORISM INCIDENT
In the rare event of a firearms or weapons attack, ensure you follow these three steps to protect yourself and facilitate the police response.
RUN
Escape the area if you can, this is considered a better option than surrendering or negotiating.
Plan a route to safety and act quickly and quietly, leaving all belongings behind.
Do not stop to film the incident.
HIDE
Look for cover from gunfire (e.g., substantial brickwork or heavy reinforced walls), as cover from view alone (like glass, wood, or typical walls) is not enough to stop bullets.
Be as quiet as possible; silence your mobile phone and turn off vibrate.
Barricade yourself in a room if possible and move away from the door.
TELL
When it is safe to do so, call the police at 112 and try to provide clear information to the call taker.
Location and nature of the incident.
Description, number, location, and direction of travel of the attackers.
WHEN POLICE ARRIVE
Police officers responding to a potential terrorist incident will be armed and focused on neutralising the threat.
Follow all instructions they give immediately and without question.
Keep your hands visible at all times to show you are unarmed and avoid any sudden movements or gestures that could be perceived as a threat.
